Dulaglutide (Trulicity)
Also called Trulicity · Dula
Trulicity is a once-weekly diabetes injection used to lower blood sugar. Some people also lose weight, but it is not a dedicated weight-loss medicine; its benefits and dose choices should be judged in the context of diabetes care.
Dosage & duration
US adult Trulicity label; pediatric dosing is different.
Adult starting dose
Product label- Dose
- 0.75 mg
- How often
- Once weekly, under the skin
- How long
- Ongoing treatment
May increase to 1.5 mg after four weeks; no fixed course length.

Further adult dose increases
Product label- Dose
- 1.5 mg increments; maximum 4.5 mg
- How often
- Once weekly
- How long
- At least four weeks at the current dose before another increase
Only when additional blood-sugar control is needed and under the prescribing plan.

This explains the label, not how to switch from another GLP-1.
Why people look into it
With Trulicity, look beyond the scale
-
Blood sugar
Diabetes control is the main treatment target.
-
Weight change
Some people lose weight; the response varies.
-
Daily tolerability
Stomach symptoms and dehydration can get in the way.
Why people take it
Dulaglutide helps manage type 2 diabetes and can reduce major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple risk factors. Weight changes are an additional consideration, not its only purpose.
How it compares with Ozempic
Both are weekly GLP-1 injections, but their milligram amounts are not interchangeable. A move between products needs a new prescription plan rather than a same-number substitution.
What to watch for
Nausea, diarrhea and vomiting can make treatment difficult. Ongoing vomiting can cause dehydration. Low blood sugar is more likely with insulin or a sulfonylurea; the clinician may need to change those medicines. The label excludes people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2.

How to read this estimate
Estimated from study endpoints; the curve between measurements is reconstructed. Compare amounts and timing in mg.
A concentration estimate reconstructed from the stated source dose and timing.

- Observed extravascular concentrations already contain bioavailability; do not multiply by legacy F or add an independently assumed F.
- Dose scaling and repeated-dose superposition use fixed parameters; the example dose does not calibrate the curve.
- Chosen single-dose healthy-cohort half-life differs from broader label and diabetes cohorts.
- Linear1.5mg scaling across all UI doses is an approximation; preserve source scope.
- Endpoint-based shape overestimates finite-window AUC by15.09%; do not call this exact concentration-profile reproduction.

Common questions
Is Trulicity approved specifically for weight loss?
No. Its US indications concern type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk in eligible adults with type 2 diabetes.
Is 4.5 mg the starting dose?
No. The adult label begins at 0.75 mg weekly and uses gradual increases when needed.

Semaglutide Injection (Ozempic/Wegovy)
Semaglutide can reduce hunger and food intake, helping people lose weight. Wegovy injections are prescribed for weight management; Ozempic injections treat type 2 diabetes. Both are taken weekly, with gradual dose increases to help manage digestive side effects.
Semaglutide Oral (Rybelsus)
Oral semaglutide offers a daily tablet option for adults with type 2 diabetes who want to avoid injections. The morning routine matters: food, drink and other tablets affect absorption, and different semaglutide products cannot be compared milligram for milligram.
Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)
Tirzepatide can reduce appetite and food intake, helping people lose weight and improve blood-sugar control. In the US, Zepbound is the weight-management brand and Mounjaro treats type 2 diabetes. Both are weekly injections; digestive side effects and the right dose for the treatment goal are the main practical trade-offs.
