IGF-1 DES
Also called Des(1-3) IGF-1 · IGF-DES
IGF-1 DES is sought for a strong workout pump and bringing up a lagging muscle. Claims of local growth are much stronger than the human evidence: a pump, an injection site or a cell experiment cannot establish lasting muscle gain.
Dosage & duration
One public training log, not a recommended protocol.
One DES/LR3 account · first training day
Reported use · unapproved regimen- Dose
- 50 mcg total DES in the Day 1 report
- How often
- Before training, intramuscular in the account
- How long
- 4–5 weeks planned in the log
Later reported DES amounts differed. LR3 was also used, so effects cannot be assigned to DES alone; product and doses were unverified. A planned course is not a proven safe duration.
Use the amount only as context for a reported experience, not as evidence of efficacy or safety.
The practical difference
A workout pump and muscle growth are different
| What is being described | Workout pump | Muscle growth |
|---|---|---|
| Meaning | Temporary fullness during training | Lasting change in muscle tissue |
| What it can show | A sensation or appearance in a session | An outcome requiring a longer, controlled assessment |
What people hope to notice
DES discussions often revolve around training-day fullness and growth in a particular muscle. Short-lived fullness is not a measurement of new muscle tissue, and reports commonly involve other growth-related drugs.
DES versus LR3
Both are modified IGF-1 research molecules, but their modifications differ. DES has three amino acids removed. Greater activity in a particular cell test does not mean the same multiplier for human growth, nor does it prove the effect stays at the injection site.
Why the plot cannot settle workout timing
A short curve can make pre-workout precision look more certain than it is. No human study in the checked sources establishes an optimal lifting window, injection site or cycle for growth.
Model details: IGF-1 DES · relative timing
Compare timing and buildup for this compound. The values are not blood concentrations or a measure of strength.
Shows a relative timing scenario; absolute blood concentrations are not calibrated.
Timing assumptions and sources
Retained only as an explicit mathematical timing assumption; not a verified human half-life. No concentration-unit amplitude is supported.
One 1 mg input peaks at 1 relative unit after a single dose. Other amounts scale proportionally; overlapping doses add when accumulation is on. Different compounds use separate relative scales.
- Timing half-life used
- 0.48 hours
- Absorption half-life assumed
- 0.12 hours
- Reference amount for the relative scale
- 1 mg
- Absorption half-life is assumed to be one quarter of the slower timescale (0.12 h); it is not a measured absorption parameter.
- A single 1-unit input has a peak of 1 relative unit; scaling and repeated-dose addition are mathematical assumptions. This normalization is independent of the example dose.
- Tracer radioactivity, parent analyte and human administered-product exposure are not interchangeable. Retained timing is an assumption.
- Ballard et al.: labelled IGF and des(1-3)IGF-I clearance in rats
Rat tracer study reports more rapid des(1-3)IGF-I removal and different binding/distribution; no matched human SC curve.

Common questions
Does a bigger pump prove muscle growth?
No. Temporary fullness and new muscle tissue are different outcomes.
Is DES ten times better for growth?
A potency ratio from a cell assay is not a human muscle-growth multiplier.

Notes on the quick facts
- Reported goal
- A temporary pump does not prove permanent growth.
- Comparison
- They are not interchangeable dose-for-dose.
- Local action
- Where a substance is injected does not prove where all its effects occur.
- 1. Original IGF truncation cell experiment
Rat muscle-cell assay; altered potency is not a human bodybuilding multiplier.
- 2. Ballard et al.: labelled IGF and des(1-3)IGF-I clearance in rats
Rat tracer study reports more rapid des(1-3)IGF-I removal and different binding/distribution; no matched human SC curve.
- 3. Rat clearance and distribution of des(1-3)IGF-I
Original tracer study: reduced binding and faster plasma clearance than IGF-I in rats; not human SC PK.
- 4. IGF analogue structure and biological potency
Original cell study: binding-protein environment changes relative biological potency of DES, LR3 and native IGF-I.
